photo1 200x300 App Review: Hapax by Serie BlancheHapax is a clever, multi-player, word definition game remarkably similar to Balderdash. This game can be played with four or more players. All you need is a pen and paper for each player. To begin, an uncommon word is displayed on the iPhone. All but one of the players makes up a definition for the word. The remaining player, the gamemaster, writes down the correct definition for the word provided by the app on a piece of paper. All of the players place their definitions in a pile. The definitions are read off one by one by the gamemaster. Without knowing who wrote each definition, all the players vote on the definition they believe to be correct. Every player that votes for the right definition gets a point. If a player votes for an incorrect definition, the player who wrote the definition and the gamemaster get a point. Each round of play, a different player acts as the gamemaster.

To choose the next word, simply press the random word selection button. Show the group the next word by placing the iPhone into landscape mode. After the players have seen the word, the gamemaster presses the button to view the definition.

Hapax is a fun app that can be used to entertain yourself with odd words and fun definitions.  Use this app to impress your friends with words they’ve never heard or entertain yourself and your friends for hours trying to define words you have never heard before.

Hapax is available in the iTunes App Store for $0.99.  There is also a free version.
