Apple bringing the smackdown on Emoji enabling apps
It was bound to happen, applications that enable features not meant for your geographical region are obviously against the SDK. However, there has been a plethora of these apps hit the app store lately. Many of such apps have little function than to enable Emoji, which if you don’t know by now is aimed primarily at the Japanese market.
Tuaw and iPhoneAlley (and others) are reporting today that Apple appears to be removing any app from the app store that enables Emoji. And while I don’t agree with the heavy hand that Apple puts forth on things like this (like, what’s the harm here? they’re emoticons people), I do understand that these apps were likely breaking the SDK TOS and wading into a sea of uncertainty.
My advice? If you want Emoji, consider this your warning that time is quickly running out on your opportunity to enable it on your device. There are just a few apps left that do it paid and free but it’s only a matter of time before these are gone too.
