20q2 200x300 20 Questions App Review Results. Can you guess?Note: This app is no longer available in the iTunes App Store.

Every kid knows how to play the game of 20 questions.  In my experience, it is a great way to pass the time during long car rides on family vacations.  A couple of years ago, the game reached new levels of popularity with the release of a handheld 20 Questions game by Radica.  It is fun to see if it can guess what you are thinking of.  It is surprising how often this little device can guess the right answer.

Now this popular game is available from inZania for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  After playing the game a few times, I found that the app did indeed come to the right answer much of the time.  The questions are very similar to the ones used in other versions of the same game.  I am still not sure why the question, “Does it bring joy to people?” is included, but what do I know?  Also, as with other 20 question games I have played, you have more options than the straight yes and no answers that we all used as a kid.  I guess the computer needs a little advantage since it doesn’t really have a brain.  You start the game after thinking of something for the app to guess.  The first question asks you to identify the thing  that you are thinking of as an Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, Other, or Unknown.  Each question after the first falls more into the yes/no type of question.  You have more answer options, though.  To each question you can answer Yes, No, Unknown, Irrelevant, Sometimes, or Probably.  These other answer options can really come in handy because sometimes a straight yes or no would be a little misleading.

In the off chance that the app is not able to guess what you are thinking of, it may ask if it can ask more questions or it may also ask you to type in the answer so that it can learn it.  I am not sure how that works, but it is a neat idea.  I did type in the answer once because it could not guess a remote control. Then, I played the game again with the same object in mind.  The second time it guessed a remote control using a different set of questions.   If you like playing 20 questions, this is a great version of the game.  Even at $2.99, it is cheaper than buying a handheld game.

20 Questions is available in the iTunes App Store.
