App Review: Doodle Jump by Lima Sky
Doodle Jump by Lima Sky is an entertaining game with animated graphics and great gameplay. The goal of this game is to jump up the steps as high as you can while avoiding monsters, falling through broken steps, and bouncing off springs. To control your doodler, tilt your device left and right. If your guy falls off the screen on either side, he will show up on the other side of the screen safe and sound. In the course of the game, you also run into monsters that try to stop you. You can shoot at them by tapping anywhere on the screen. As you kill enemies, you get more points.
There are four types of steps that you can jump on: blue, brown, green, and white. The blue steps move from side to side. The brown steps snap in half when you step on them, and you fall through. The green steps stay in place, and the white steps can only be bounced on once before they disappear. There are many different monsters. Some stay in place, others move from side to side, and some will even abduct you if you don’t shoot them. There are also springs that give you a super bounce. Probably the most dangerous, though, are the holes in the paper. They suck you in if you get too close. Each level is set up randomly, but gets progressively harder as you climb higher.
When you run into a monster, get abducted by a flying saucer, or fall off the screen and die, your score is shown next to your high score with the option to submit your score to the high scores. You can view the high scores off of the main menu. While you are playing, small red lines with other players names are shown at the height that they died. This lets you know how many people you are beating.
This game is really fun with great replay value. The cartoon graphics and smooth controls will have you coming back for more.
Doodle Jump is $0.99 in the iTunes App Store.
