flufighter3 150x150 App Review: Flu Fighter by Robot vs. MonkeyFlu Fighter by Robot vs. Monkey is fun game based on the old Dr. Mario game for the Nintendo Game System.  The game play itself and the goals are the same as Dr. Mario.  Each level presents you with “viruses” in three different colors.  You are given retangular pills one at a time to kill the viruses.  Each pill is divided in half and has one of the three virus colors on each half.  Your job is to get rid of the viruses by stacking the pieces on the viruses such that there are four of the same color in a row.  You can rotate the pills and move them from side to side to accomplish this goal.

One of the interesting features of this game is that you can play not only by yourself, but you can play in multiplayer mode.  You simply need a Wi-Fi network.  Then you can battle your friends to see who can clear their screen first.  Watch out, though.  If your opponent clears a chain of viruses, it will send extra pill pieces falling randomly on your screen. You can also compete with others online by uploading your high scores.  Unfortunately, there is no way to save your game and come back to it later.  However, you can choose to start your game at any level up to level 20.  At least you don’t have to start at level 0 every time you start playing.

Flu fighter is easy to understand and fun to play.  The only difficulty I had with the game came in using the controls.  To rotate a piece before it is placed on the board, you tap the screen.  A swipe of the finger across the screen to the left or right or down moves the pill in that direction.  A swipe up immediately drops the pill into place.  I found that if I was not diliberate with my movements, they often got misinterpreted and I made a mistake that sometimes cost me the game.  The controls definitely take some getting used to.  Once you do figure them out, the game is fun and addicting.  For those who like Dr. Mario or Tetris, this game is a good one.

Flu Fighter is $1.99 in the iTunes App Store.
