App Review: 3-D Vector Ball by Gyrocade
3-D Vector Ball by Gyrocade is a cool game with a lot of great features. The game is just like playing ping pong inside a box. What you are trying to do is hit the ball to a location where your opponent can’t get to it in time so it passes them. You control your paddle by tilting your device or by touch. There are 5 panels on your paddle, one in each corner and one in the middle. Depending on which panel you hit the ball with, the ball will go in a different direction. If you hit it in the middle, it will go straight across to the other side. If you hit it on the top left, the ball will go up and to the left. The same thing happens with all of the other corners, but it will go in the corresponding direction.
The scoring is the same as in a game of tennis. If you and your opponent are tied at 40, it becomes a duece and you must then get two consecutive points without your opponent scoring to win. Once your opponent runs out of lives, you will advance to the next round. If you run out of lives, then you get a game over. You can then submit your score to the global high scores list and begin a new game.
There is also an option to play multiplayer with one of your friends over the same WiFi network. This game mode has the same rules as single player mode does.
The only complaint that I have is that the multiplayer mode can lag slightly. The lag causes your opponent’s paddle, over WiFi, to be completely behind the ball. However, 3-D Vector Ball is a great game that will keep you involved for hours. The graphics are very colorful and they change with every round.
3-D Vector Ball is $0.99 in the iTunes App Store.
