App Review: Bloons by Digital Goldfish Ltd.
Bloons by Digital Goldfish Ltd. is a great remake of the online flash version game with some improvements. The goal of the game is to pop the target amount of bloons with the number of darts given. To shoot a dart, place your finger anywhere on the screen and slide your finger in the direction you want the dart to go. The further you slide your finger, the more powerful your shot will be. A great feature to help you fine tune your shot is the ghost arrow. This shows exactly which direction and power you shot last with a blue arrow. This feature helps in those times you want to adjust your shot just a hair.
There are many types of bloons, walls, and darts to keep the game interesting. The first type of bloons are basic balloons. These bloons are popped by getting shot with a dart. Other bloons include ice bloons, which freeze all the bloons around them making them unpoppable; bomb bloons, which blow up all surrounding bloons; and spikey bloons, which fall through all types of bloons and walls except solid walls.
There are three types of walls including rubber walls, wood walls, and metal walls. Wood walls can be destroyed by being shot, making shooting the remaining bloons easier. Rubber walls can be used to bounce darts off of. (Spikey bloons bounce on them as well.) The last type of wall is a metal wall. These walls form a barrier that cannot be destroyed.
The basic dart has just one dart. Special bloons can be popped to give you three darts, a bomerang, or an extra dart. These each give you one additional shot if you collect them. Other features include light sabres, helium bloons, and tack bloons.
If you destroy the target number of bloons with the darts given, you will advance to the next level. The percentage of bloons you destroyed will be saved for that level so you can always go back and try to beat your personal best. There are 50 well designed levels with 50 more coming soon. The developers also said that they were going to make a level editor section so that you can create levels and store them for as long as you want. Some levels may seem impossible, but with determination, all of these levels can be beat. After you beat all fifty levels, you get a special reward.
Bloons is a great game for any of the fans of the flash version, and anybody who is looking for a great app. The levels are unique and smooth. This app is definitely worth the money.
Bloons is $0.99 on the iTunes App Store. The price will go up with the release of the next update, though.
