App Review: Sonic the Hedgehog by SEGA
Sonic the Hedgehog by SEGA is a blast from the past with great execution and many fond memories. Dr. Eggman has turned all of the small critters into disastrous monsters that are out to get you. You must make your way through the lands and save the animals. Each level is just like the original SEGA Genesis game with smooth controls and original graphics.
To move Sonic, use the joystick on the left of the screen. On the right side of the screen is a jump button. To make Sonic spin, press down while you are moving and he will spin. Unfortunately, this does not cause a superspin because that was not introduced until Sonic 2, and this app is based on the first. As you travel you collect coins, kill enemies to release the creature inside, and make it to the end. In each of the seven lands, there are three levels. At the end of the third level, you must fight against the evil Dr. Eggman. Once he is defeated, you set free tons of animals and advance to the next level. To defeat an enemy, simply jump on top of them or up into them.
If you collect 50 coins or more, there is a bonus level at the end of the sub-level. If you collect 100 or more coins, you get an extra life. At the end of the level your points for each ring are added up as well as animals set free and the time the level is completed in. If you have no rings, and an animal, spike, or lava touches you; you will lose a life. You have three lives in all. Throughout the game bonuses are hidden. Some include: super speed, temporary shield, 10 extra coins, invincibility, and even an extra life. Hidden in each level, are secret passages and springs.
Sonic is a classic sure to be enjoyed by those who loved the original, or anyone else looking for a great game. The sound and music are original. Only the best of the best can beat this game, but with a lot of practice, you can do it too.
Sonic is available in the iTunes App Store for $5.99
