graviton5 150x150 App Review: Graviton by Chillingo Ltd.Graviton by Chillingo Ltd. is great game that makes great use of the accelerometer. The Earth has been atacked by an alien species known as the Xugg’zak.  The Xugg’zak destroyed many of the major cities and stole many of the Earth’s natural resources.  Your only hope for restoring life on Earth is to find and collect the few energy spheres the Xugg’zak left behind. You must fly your ship, the Graviton, safely around to gather these spheres and deliver them to a safe place where they will be used to rebuild the human race.  There are many obstacles in your way as you try to navigate the rubble and debris left on the planet.

The controls for your ship are simple.  To move your ship up, just tilt your device forward.  To move the ship forward or backwards tilt your device in the direction you want to go (ie. left or right). When you begin playing the game, an arrow will lead you to the energy sphere. To pick up an energy sphere, simply place the end of the rope from your ship near the sphere and it will attract it. You must then guide your ship with the sphere through the catastrophic world and avoid running into things. Your ship and the energy sphere each have a health bar. If either one of the two blow up, you lose the level. The faster you complete a level, the more points you are awarded. To help you achieve your mission, you have a turbo speed. Tap on the edges of the screen to release your turbo. Once you have successfully made it through the world and the landing pad is below you, tap the center of the screen to release the energy sphere. While you are traveling, you will need to unlock doors and use carts to travel over lava.

This is a fun, simple game with great 3D graphics and controls. If you feel like you did great on a level, publish it online and see how you compare to the scores of others. Be careful while flying your ship, though.  Some objects can be driven through, and others, like buildings, cannot.

Graviton is $1.99 in the iTunes App Store.
