App Review: Flyloop: Butterfly Looping Fun Not Just For Kids with Tips
Flyloop has been hailed in the iTunes App Store as being a great app for kids and even the #1 app for kids. With that type of praise, I thought I should take a look and see if it was really as great as it appeared. The premise of the game is simple enough for any age. All you have to do is circle butterflies of the same color on the screen. Circle enough butterfly groups before time runs out to complete each level.
For the most part, the game was what I expected with one major difference. It was a lot harder than I expected. The butterflies actually move across the screen at a pretty fast clip, some more quickly than others. You have to move fast to catch even two of the same color before they disappear. To add to the challenge, you only get credit for circling the butterflies if there are only one color of butterfly within the circle. As the levels advance, there are more and more butterflies on the screen, making your job increasingly difficult. The good news is that each time you circle a group of like-colored butterflies successfully, some of the butterflies disappear. Sometimes I found the number of butterflies overwhelming.
Flyloop is a great game. It is fun and challenging with a subject matter and graphics appropriate for all ages. You can play it over and over and try to beat your own high score or get your name on the leaderboard. I would love to see an option added to the menu that allows you to adjust the speed of the butterflies in easy, medium, and hard difficulties. As the game stands, it is too difficult for younger children that would otherwise really enjoy it. Still, a great app at a small price.
- The more butterflies you catch in a circle, the more points you get. Catch larger groups to earn a higher score.
- Rainbow colored butterflies are “wild cards.” They can be grouped with any color butterfly. Use them to get a larger group and more points.
- While the title of the level is displayed on the screen, the butterflies will begin flying. However, groups caught during this time don’t seem to count. You must wait until the title starts disappearing from the screen to start catching butterflies.
