hockey all star shootout8 200x300 App Review: Hockey Allstar Shootout by Big Blue BubbleHaving grown up in western Canada there’s one thing that becomes a way of life: hockey. I haven’t seen many hockey apps come through the app store, so when I saw Hockey Allstar Shootout come into our request queue I decided I just had to give it a go.

Hockey Allstar Shootout is a pretty basic game. The entire premise of the game is to score on the goalie. Then again, that’s pretty much the entire premise of hockey itself!! However, with Hockey Allstar Shootout, it’s only you and the goalie in the game.

When you launch the game you choose a country. I chose Canada, (and a later game the USA) although there are nine countries to choose from. Selecting the country selects your opponents team, or in this case the goalies jersey. Once you’re in the game it’s you, the puck and the goalie. You shoot the puck by flicking it on the screen of your device. Deeking out the goalie is the whole key here to get the puck in the net.

Truth be told, Hockey Allstar Shootout is a pretty basic game. There’s not much too it other than flicking the puck at the goalie. However, it is a hockey app and with so few of them in the app store then those that love hockey may find it amusing for some time. Just to set expectations though, if you’re looking for a game you can play for hours and that advances through levels etc, this isn’t it. If you’re looking to get your hockey fix for a few minutes then look no further.

What we liked: Hey! it’s a hockey game!
What we didn’t like: Too basic, game play not sufficient to keep your interest, worth the $1 only to big hockey fans (others will find it a waste).
