Today is Amazon’s launch of their new Android app store called “Amazon Appstore for Android.” However, Apple doesn’t seem too happy about Amazon’s use of the “app store” moniker and has filed a trademark infringement suit against Amazon for their use of the term. Despite the fact that the suit was actually filed last week, long before the Amazon Appstore for Android went live today, Amazon still launched the app store using the term.
Apple has had other opposition to their use of “app store” as well. When Apple filed for a trademark on the term Microsoft disputed it and said that it was too broad and too common a term to be trademarked.
Despite the app store suits that are now flying around, those of you on Android can get Angry Birds Rio from Amazon for the next 16 hours.
