icon@2x App Review: Dataman by XvisionAre you on a limited data plan (e.g. AT&T)? Want to prevent additional
data charges on your iPhone bill? Then DataMan is your answer.

The DataMan iPhone app is a data usage manager that monitors your
cellular and Wi-Fi data usage in the background, keeping a log of your
activities. What’s more, it geotags your data activities. So you can
browse your daily data activities on a map. You can even zoom in on
the map to see the time and usage amount for certain places.

In additional, DataMan is able to alert you when you exceed your data
allowance. There are many options for you to customize to suit your
data plan and needs. You can set the daily, weekly and monthly
allowance. You can also set 4 levels of usage alert threshold.

Unlike other data usage tracking app, DataMan is the only app that has
real time monitoring and notification. You get the usage alerts even
when you are in another app or your phone is off. This is very helpful
in managing your data consumption to prevent additional data charges.

For proper operation, DataMan requires you to turn on Location
Services. This does affect the battery but from our experience, it is
minimal as the app uses the low-power location service offered by iOS4
to drastically reduce battery drain. We find that this is a small
price to pay for the ability to control data usage and stop overage
charges.

DataMan has a very friendly user interface. It’s easy to setup and
use. The initial steps are to configure your bill start date and
define your data allowance. Then you are ready and can close the app.
DataMan is now monitoring your data usage in the background.

Finally, DataMan works with any carrier in any country. There’s no
login to your carrier site. So whether you are in US, UK, Canada, or
anywhere in the world, you can use DataMan. It gets the data usage
statistics from your phone.

In November, according to the developer, DataMan will support iPad
(WiFi+3G) when iOS4.2 is out.

We highly recommend getting DataMan to manage your limited data plan.
You’ll love the money it saves for you.
