Need for Speed HP 9 e1293487032593 125x125 App Review: Need For Speed Hot Pursuit By EA-Introduction-Electronic Arts just came out with there newest addition to the NFS. This game on the Iphone4 has great new graphics, sounds, and most of all the cars! When the game first came out you was unable to play as a racer you had to be the cop but now with the new updated version you can play as either a racer or the cop! The games biggest selling point has to be the effects of the graphics.

-Graphics-The game has outstanding graphics with the help of the iphone4. Although there have been reported problems of the having slower load times, and rare freezing. You have several areas of tracks to go trough from deserts to the coast and even the city. The main part has to be the racing cars, they are outstanding to see todays dream machines on an game. The game offers everything from a basic cop car to the new high powered lamborghini speed racer. When playing as a cop you have options such as spike strips, road blocks, and of course oil slicks. Overall graphics on the newer devices is outstanding and is what is making this game not only popular but ranking it on the itunes top ten!

-Sound Effects- When playing the game what makes the most noise has to be the police sirens and the radio noise, which does not sound like much, but it does get a little irritating after a couple of min. The game does sound a lot better with earphones/headphones than just the basic device speaker. The music in the game is not the best but I’m looking for an update that allows you to add your own music soon.Overall the sound effects are a little irritating but don’t let this turn you away from an exciting game.

-Gameplay/Controls- The game has a great interface and very basic controls, like most racing games you tilt to steer and touch to break. New features include auto-acceleration,auto-breaking. These new features keep the gamer less distracted on messing with controls and more focused on playing the game which is a plus for EA. Types of racing events in the game is like most, checkpoint racing against other cops, hot pursuit, taking out multiple players and etc. The awarding system is the game, the more you go through the events and racers the more cars and stats you unlock. The leveling system is based on how much money you earn on each mission. You have a set amount to the next level which you must reach before proceeding. Overall the gameplay and controls are pretty acceptable!

-Final Report- This is a great game among the racing games. It combines great interface with wonderful graphics and great sound. My rating for this game has to be a 7/10. The things I don’t like about the have to be that it lags, and has quite a bit of bugs and a glitch here and there, but I would for sure share this game with any racer or car fan!!!!

SimCity Deluxe.appchatter 006 e1288647803123 125x125 App Review: SimCity Deluxe by Electronic ArtsIf you like tycoon and sandbox games you will love SimCity. This game is very challenging to play and requires not only common sense but smarts. This game will test you on city building techniques, taxs, healthcare, and crazy disasters all at the same time keeping people happy and maintaining their needs. If you are a fan of the other simcity games then you will be took to a whole new level with this game, featuring new disasters, new buildings and zones, excellent graphics with zoom in effects just added to the game.

Starting off with the graphics. Previous SimCity games have always been low detail and little special effects, even on the pc! This game adds the new zoom in-and-out effect allowing you to pinch to zoom out and pinch in to zoom in. When zoomed in the graphics and detail of the buildings and roads get even better, without slowing down game performance. Overall, graphics for the game is rated 6/10

Audio, I was a little disappointed with the music on the game. It is irritating and gets a little old after about 20min. Sound effects for disasters are fairly good. When you put your device in sleep mode and go back to the game all sound is muted and you will have to start over. As far as the audio I give it a 5/10

Gameplay. Most people have had problems with the game saying it either freezes or crashes. I have a 8g iPod and I have had no problems with the game crashing or freezing although the audio problem could be fixed. I had got the free version of the game before I got the full and I did have problems with crashes, but not with the paid. Gameplay overall 7/10

Features: This game offers some new added features including changing seasons, several starting cities to choose from, seasonal catastrophes and even editing the land before your start your city. For those who don’t wont to build their own city, starters are perfect for you. Although they will need extra help and a lot of work to get started.

My opinion: This is a great game, I have had no problems with the game crashing, failing or anything on my iPod. I would like to see more features and updates coming soon!

My Rating: 8/10

What I did like: This game is very challenging to play and has great graphics.

What I did not like: The music of the game could be changed, don’t really like it. Few bugs could be fixed.

App Review: Star Trek by Electronic Arts

startrek1 150x150 App Review: Star Trek by Electronic ArtsStar Trek by Electronic Arts is an awesome way to become part of the missions you see your favorite characters undertake on T.V. There are tons of missions on Star Trek.  On each mission, there are a series of attackers that you will need to defeat using your phasers, torpedoes, shields, and tractor beam. Your phasers will fire automatically at the enemy ships and can fire in any direction. The Torpedoes must be fired be tapping the fire button. The torpedoes shoot only out of the front of the Enterprise. The shields will protect you from enemy fire and other dangerous obstacles. Your Tractor Beam will take in the power ups that come within your range. The power ups are things such as: health, multiple phasers, helpful ally ships and more. You can upgrade your phasers, torpedoes, shields, and your tractor beam after each mission using the stars that you earn during the missions. You earn these stars by completing certain challenges.

While you are fighting alien species, you also have to steer your ship through space.  There are three ways to control your ship, the USS Enterprise: accelerometer, virtual joystick, or touch. With the accelerometer controls, you just tilt to fly your ship.  You can tap anywhere on the screen to fire your torpedoes. With the virtual joystick, you use an invisible joystick to control your ship, and you tap the green circle in the bottom right corner of the screen to fire your torpedoes. With the touch controls, you just touch in the direction that you wish your ship to fly and then you press the same green fire button in the bottom right corner of the screen to fire your torpedoes.

In Campaign Mode, there are three different level packs: The Klingons, The Romulans, and The Cardassians. Each of these level packs contains 9 unique levels. You can also play in Quick Play mode. This will select a random level for you to play.

Star Trek contains all of the characters from the Movie such as: Spock, Kirk, Chekhov, Sulu, Scotty and Uhura. This is the best space game on the App Store, and definitely a must have for any Trekkies or anyone looking for an exciting game. This game is awesome with great replay value and objectives.

Star Trek is $2.99 in the iTunes App Store.

This is the first time that we here at have referred to an outside review, but has a very complete and comprehensive review of Need for Speed. I have to admit, this game looks awesome and since we haven’t had a chance to spend any time with it we’re looking to an outside source for some good info.

From Appmodo:

I will say this upfront and very clearly, Need for Speed Undercover is the best racing game to date for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. PERIOD. Electronic Arts just took the iPhone from a 3.0 level to a 4.0 with the release of this ultimate new game.

Need for Speed Undercover for the iPhone makes me feel like I’m playing the full 1080i version on my Xbox 360. EA made sure that every single feature from their Need for Speed series showed up on their mobile platform.

Need for Speed is $9.99 in the iTunes App Store.

App Review: Trivial Pursuit by Electronic Arts

trivial pursuit6 150x150 App Review: Trivial Pursuit by Electronic ArtsTrivial Pursuit fans, your favorite trivia game is now available for your iPhone and iPod TouchElectronic Arts has recently released Trivial Pursuit in the iTunes App Store.  Now you can test your knowledge by yourself or with your friends wherever you are.

There are four different types of game play; Classic Mode, Pursuit Mode, Pass’n Play, and Wi-Fi Multiplayer Mode.  In Classic Mode you can play alone or against the app’s opponent.  In starting the game, you can choose the number of wedges needed to win, whether you can earn the wedges on any square or just the larger tiles, the difficulty of your opponent, and the time limit for answering questions.  You can also customize your player by changing your name, mascot, and color.  Once you have determined the particulars of the game, you proceed straight into the game.  To play the game, you roll the dice and then move your playing piece.  Each time you move your piece, you must answer a question.  If you answer the question correctly, you roll again.  Answer incorrectly, and it is your opponent’s turn (assuming you have one, of course).

Pursuit Mode provides another single player game.  In this mode there is a shorter game board.  However, instead of rolling the dice and then moving, you answer the question first.  The faster you answer the question the higher the number of spaces you will get to move.  The goal is to make it to the other end of the board as quickly as possible.

Pass’n Play mode allows you to play a game with multiple players on the same device.  The game play is the same as in the Classic mode.  See which one of your friends can earn all 6 of their wedges first to win the game.  You can also play a multi-player game over a Wi-Fi network using the Wi-Fi Multiplayer mode.

The only trouble I had with this game was figuring out the answers to many of the questions.  They can by quite difficult.  Trivial Pursuit by Electronic Arts is a great version of the classic game that you can play anywhere, anytime.

Trivial Pursuit is $4.99 in the iTunes App Store.
