realsoccer20094 150x150 App Review: Real Soccer 2009 by GameloftReal Soccer 2009 by Gameloft is an awesome game that uses all the iPhones great features. The game’s main menu has several different game modes that you can play in. The first is Exhibition Mode. This mode allows you to play just a single match rather than many at once. The next is Cup Mode. Here you can choose to play for either the World Cup, the European Cup, the Asian Cup, the American Cup, or the African Cup. The next option is League Mode. This mode allows you to compete in the league of your choice. The next mode, Multiplayer, allows you to compete against you friends in head to head matches. The last two modes are Training and Penalty Kicks. Training Mode teaches you the Basic and Advanced game play. Penalty Kicks allows you to practice your penalty kicks against another team.

The controls on Real Soccer are awesome. You can move your player by using the pad in the bottom left of the screen. If you tap the pad twice and then hold it, your player will sprint. You can perform fancy tricks by simply taping in different ways on an empty part of the screen while your player has the ball. When the ball goes out of bounds, you can tilt your device to aim where you want to throw and then shake your device to throw the ball in. To pass to an opponent, all you need to do is press the B button. The longer you hold B, the more powerful your kick will be. If you wish to shoot the ball, all you need to do is tap the A button. The longer you hold A, the more powerful your shot will be. When you are on Defense, you steal the ball by simply tapping the B button when you are close to the opponent who has the ball.

Real Soccer 2009 is an awesome game with many cool game play features. It also offers over 12 stadiums to play in and over 198 teams to play on or against. This game also has great 3D graphics. This game is sure to be one that you will love.

assassinscreed3 150x150 App Review: Assassins Creed Altairs Chronicles by GameloftAssassin’s Creed – Altair’s Chronicles by Gameloft is one of the best titles for the iPhone. You are Altair, the master assassin, and must search and find The Chalice to end the crusade. Along your journey you will kill Templars, climb buildings, swing around with your grappling hook, and even perform tortures to get your questions answered. This game takes place in 1191 AD.  So, rather than shooting enemies with advanced weapons, you get to use direct combat with swords, daggers, and even bombs.

As you begin the game, you have a sword and not many skills to work with. You are given brief instructions, and then you are on your way. On the bottom of the screen are the controls. On the left side of the screen is your joystick, and on the right is your sword, jumping, and shield abilities. At the top of your screen, your health and number of orbs you have collected is displayed. As you approach an enemy, simply start using your sword to kill him. As you progress through the game, you will learn combo attacks to help you eliminate the enemies quicker. Throughout the game are blue orbs and red orbs. The blue orbs are used to upgrade your sword and health.  The red orbs are used to heal you. As you continue, instructions are given to inform you on the next task you must accomplish. At the top of the screen is a green arrow to help lead you in the right direction.

Every so often you’ll need to get some information or a key to help you. To pickpocket a person, walk quietly up to them and press the yellow button that appears. The view will then change to the inside of the person’s bag. Swipe your finger all across the screen to light up the bag, and safely guide the object you want through the bag to the exit without touching the sides or any other items. To perform an interrogation, approach the victim and press the yellow button that appears. Press the numbers in the correct numerical order when the red circles become green. You will then get the information and be on your way. At any point during the game, you can exit to the main menu and choose a memory to play. Any level that you have completed will become playable.

Assassin’s Creed is an amazing game that has finally graced the app store with its presence. It works very well with the iPhone and is fun to play. The game is very long and detailed.  It is definitely worth the money and is a great title to show off to your friends.

Assassin’s Creed – Altair’s Chronicles is $5.99 in the iTunes App Store.

App Review: Siberian Strike by Gameloft

siberianstrike4 150x150 App Review: Siberian Strike by GameloftSiberian Strike by Gameloft is one of the best airplane games on the App Store. The game is set in the 1940’s. You are playing as Elliott Freeman. Your mission is to destroy the Soviet Cyborg that has been threatening to invade Europe. To do this you need to go through levels destroying enemies and super bosses. There is always a huge boss at the end of each of the 12 levels. There are 4 different difficulties that you can choose from. You can also choose from one of 3 planes and change their color. Each of these 3 planes will have its strengths and weaknesses, so choose wisely.

You can steer your plane using either the accelerometer or the touch controls. In touch mode you just drag your plane to the desired location using your finger. In accelerometer mode, tilt your device to move your plane. Your plane will fire automatically. You can also fire your special shot by holding your finger on the screen and then releasing. After using this weapon, you will need to let it recharge. The recharge bar is located in the bottom right corner of the screen. To fire a bomb, all you need to do is tap one of the bomb buttons in the bottom left corner of the screen.

To gain power-ups that give you a better equipment, you must defeat an entire squadron of planes. Once you have done this, a power-up will appear so you can collect it. These power-ups will give you better weapons, more life, reinforcement ships, or even more bombs. Some ships will leave behind a medal when you kill them. By collecting these, you can earn more points as well as extra continues. Every time you lose all 3 of your lives, you will need to use a continue to get 3 more lives and keep playing. For every 100 medals you collect, you will get another continue.

My favorite feature of Siberian Strike is the Multiplayer Mode. This mode allows you to play a Multiplayer campaign. You and one of your friends on the same WiFi Network can help each other through campaigns. The levels that you play Multiplayer on will be the same except that there will be a lot more enemy planes to defeat, as well as harder enemies.

The last game play mode is called Free Mission. This mode allows you to go back and play any of the levels that you have already completed. The levels will be the same in this mode as they are in the original story mode.

Siberian Strike is an awesome game for anyone who likes fast paced airplane games. This game has a great story as well as many cool features. Siberian Strike is definitely a must have game.

Siberian Strike is $0.99 in the iTunes App Store.

App Review: Terminator Salvation by Gameloft

terminator1 150x100 App Review: Terminator Salvation by Gameloft Terminator Salvation by Gameloft is one of the best third person shooter games on the app store. This game is modeled off the new movie coming out this week. Set in L.A. in the year 2018, the world has become a mess. You are playing as John Connor and Marcus Wright throughout the game. As the leader of the Resistance, you must lead your men into direct combat against enemies sent by Skynet. There are eleven types of enemies including T-600s and T-1s.
You begin the game in Los Angeles with an assault rifle and a few men. There are four controls to this game. The first control style is Virtual Pad. In this control mode, you swipe your finger across the screen to look around, and you use a joystick to move. On the bottom right of the screen is the fire button. To shoot an enemy, you must be in range, and press this button when it is highlighted in red. On the top right of the screen is your gun, informing you on the amount of ammo left, and which gun you are using. Once you have earned a new type of gun, tap on this icon to switch between the guns you have in your inventory. The next control mode is Wheel Pad. In this mode, there is a joystick on the right side of the screen to view the level and aim your weapon, rather than swipe your finger. The last two control modes are similar, Accelerometer and Reversed Accelerometer. In these modes, you tilt your device to aim your weapon.

There are a total of 8 missions in this game. Throughout these levels you can take charge of turrets, fight head to head against T-600s, Drive motorcycles, and take out monstrous robots. There are 6 weapons including: Assault Rifles, Rocket Launchers, and Surge Cannons. During the game you must occasionally hack the system. This game also includes mini-games and other great features. Once you beat all of the missions on the extreme difficulty, you can play as a T-600. Terminator is one of the first fully accessible 3D games for the iPhone/iPod Touch. This game doesn’t take too long to complete on easy, but has a great replay value and two harder difficulties to shake it up.

Terminator Salvation is a great game for anybody that loves sci-fi, action, robot destroying, fun. This game is definitely worth the money. Recommended for anyone with a few extra dollars and an iPhone.

Terminator is $5.99 in the iTunes App Store.

Terminator Salvation just released, still looks amazing.

Update: Read our full review of Terminator Salvation.

Terminator Salvation was just released, literally just a few minutes ago. This is one game that looks to be taking gameplay to a whole new level with some pretty unreal graphics.  The only downside, that I can see, is the steep price of $9.99… since apps are usually only installed for a short while (hey, we’re an app review site, gotta keep ‘em rotating) that’s gonna be a hard pill….

Terminator Salvation is $9.99 in the iTunes App Store.

Terminator:Salvation coming for iPhone… looks amazing.

Update: Read our full review of Terminator Salvation.

There’s a leaked video of the forthcoming GameLoft iPhone game Terminator:Salvation at it looks great!  In fact, it looks like it might be one of the best games we’ve seen yet… well, at least the video makes the game look amazing.  Until we have it in our hands for a review we’ll just have to speculate for now.

I was able to find a couple of other blogs mentioning that a possible iPhone release date was coming up on May 21st and expected pricing is in the “high end of the spectrum” which we should interpret to mean $8.00 or above, however only time will tell how this all plays out.  In the meantime, here’s the video to wet your appetite in the meantime:

App Review: Let’s Golf by Gameloft Brings Tee Time to Your Fingertips

letsgolf141 150x150 App Review: Lets Golf by Gameloft Brings Tee Time to Your FingertipsLet’s Golf by Gameloft is a well-designed golfing game for all ages and ability levels.  When you launch the game for the first time, the app will ask you to enter in your name.  This will create a name for your profile.  The app will keep track of your stats.  There are several game play modes to choose from and a lot of options available to tweak in the options menu.  I would recommend starting with the quick tutorial located in the Options menu.  This tutorial is short and teaches you the basics of the controls for the game.  The tutorial, however, only walks you through the classic controls that are the default for the game.  Using the classic controls, you tap the screen to select the power you hit the ball with and the accuracy with which you do it.  The gauge for both of these characteristics is constantly moving so you must time your tap just right.  If you are ready for more of a challenge you can switch the controls over to advanced.  With the advanced controls, you actually move your finger on the screen in the path of a golf swing.  I found that in this mode, the swing was a lot more difficult to control.  Also, in the Options menu you can choose between 6 different languages, edit your profile, and view your stats.

The four game play modes are Instant Play, Multiplayer, Tournament, and Freehole.  Instant Play provides you with a quick game.  The app randomly selects 3 holes for you to play from the many courses that exist.  At the end of the three holes, you are told whether you are a winner or loser.  Multiplayer mode allows you to play against another player one of two ways.  The first is called Hot Seat.  This type of multiplayer game allows two people to play on the same device by taking turns being in the hot seat.  If you have two devices with the game on it, you can play against each other using a wireless connection.  You can choose to host the game or join another game.  If you want to play against someone else, but nobody is around, you can choose to play in Tournament Mode.  For a Tournament, you choose the course, the difficulty level, and which set of holes in the course you want to play.  The app provides 4 other players that you compete against.  You are the only one that actually golfs, but the app keeps track of scores for all 5 people.  The last mode is Freehole.  Again, you choose which course and which 9 holes to play and go golfing.  All of these modes are well-designed and fun.

letsgolf144 269x180 custom App Review: Lets Golf by Gameloft Brings Tee Time to Your Fingertipsletsgolf148 269x180 custom App Review: Lets Golf by Gameloft Brings Tee Time to Your Fingertips

At the beginning of each game, you get to choose your golfer from the four that are offered.  As you scroll through them, you will notice that they all have their strengths and weaknesses.  Some of them have more power, some are more accurate with their shots, and others are better putters.  As you progress through the game, you can also customize your golfer by changing their outfits, hair, and golf balls.  While you are playing, you can exit to the main menu at any time and choose another game at any time.  The app will remember where you left off and you can come back to it.

There is only one minor gripe that I would voice with this game.  That is that there are a lot of pauses as the app moves from one area of the game to the next.  For example, when the app is loading the next hole or returning to a menu.  Obviously, this is a complex game and it takes time to load.  This game is easy to pick up and fun to play.  The graphics are great and there are plenty of game play options and golfing courses to keep you busy for a long time.

Let’s Golf is $5.99 in the iTunes App Store.
