playmansquare1 150x150 App Review: Playman Track & Field by RealArcadePlayman Track & Field by RealArcade is a fun track and field simulation game. You can choose between 12 different characters from many different countries. When you begin challenge mode there are two difficulties: Amateur and Pro. Each mode includes five events in which you compete head to head against the computer. If you win the event, you get a mascot.

There are five different events that you can compete in.  The first event in the game is the 100M Dash. To make your player run, you must tap the green indicators on each side of the screen as they appear. The faster and more accurately you hit the buttons, the faster you run. You have to be on your toes.  The green dots don’t simply alternate between the left and right sides of the screen. The second event is the long jump. You run using the same method as the 100M Dash and when the time is right, press down with a finger on each side of the screen to jump.  When you hit the climax of your jump, tap again to land the jump. The third event is the 110M Hurdles. You run in this mode by selecting the numbers 1, 2, and 3 in the correct order as fast as possible. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about making your player jump the hurdles.  The players jump on their own.  The next event is the Pole Vault. You run as in the 100M Dash.  When you are almost to the box, press down both fingers and release when you hit your top height. The last event is the Javelin. You run as before tapping the green indicators.  When you approach the line, press down with both fingers, hold to your desired power, and release to send the javelin flying.

Each of these events displays the world record for that event before you play. The Tournament at the end of each difficulty lets you play against all of your opponents in all five of the events. At the end of each event you get points for how well you did in that event.  At the end of the tournament the highest score wins. For the most part, playing the game in the Pro difficulty is the same as Amateur except noticeably harder.

There are two more modes in this game: Survival and Multiplayer. In the Multiplayer mode you and five other friends can pass around your iPhone and compete on each event. In the Survival mode, you travel to the arctic and compete against Nanook. The game ends when Nanook beats you in an event. Your scores from Survival and all other modes can be viewed in the high scores mode. You can view a community scoreboard, but unfortunately, you leave the app to do so.  It would be nice to be able to view the scoreboard within the app itself.

Playman Track & Field takes awhile to get used to, and a lot of practice to master. However, it is a fun, interactive game with great animations and smooth game play.

Playman Track & Field is $0.99 in the iTunes App Store.
